چکیده

In this paper we introduce a PDE system which aims at describing the dynamics of a dispersed phase of particles moving into an incompressible perfect fluid, in two space dimensions. The system couples a Vlasov-type equation and an Euler-type equation: the fluid acts on the dispersed phase through a gyroscopic force whereas the latter contributes to the vorticity of the former. First we give a Dobrushin type derivation of the system as a mean-field limit of a PDE system which describes the dynamics of a finite number of massive pointwise particles moving into an incompressible perfect fluid. This last system is itself inferred from the paper [17], where the system for one massive pointwise particle was derived as the limit of the motion of a solid body when the body shrinks to a point with fixed mass and circulation. Then we deal with the well-posedness issues including the existence of weak solutions. Next we exhibit the Hamiltonian structure of the system and finally, we study the behavior of the system in the limit where the mass of the particles vanishes.

Experimental investigation of the gyroscopic and rotary inertia effects on the chatter boundary in a milling process

Experimental examination of the gyroscopic and rotary inertia effects on the chatter boundary in a milling operation is the chief aim of this article. The equations of motion of the tool vibration are derived based on Timoshenko beam theory and Hamilton principle by considering gyroscopic moment, rotary inertia, velocity-dependent process damping and radial immersion effect. For a range of dept...

Gypsum Dissolution Effects on the Performance of a Large Dam (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Upper Gotvand dam is constructed on the Karun River located in the south west of Iran. In this paper, 2D and 3D models of the dam together with the foundation and abutments were constructed and several seepage analyses were carried out. Then the gypsum veins scattered throughout the foundation ground and also the seepage pattern were included in the models, hence the dissolution law of gypsum, ...

Natural Frequency of Rotating Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes with Considering Gyroscopic Effect

This paper investigates the bending vibration of rotating single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) based on nonlocal theory. To this end, the rotating SWCNTs system modeled as a beam with a circular cross section and the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory (EBT) is applied with added effects such as rotary inertia, gyroscopic effect and rotor mass unbalance. Using nonlocal theory, two coupled sixth orde...

Effect of Sn Doping on Structural and Optical Properties of 2D α-MoO3 Nanostructures

Undoped and Tin (Sn) doped Molybdenum trioxide (α-MoO3) nanostructured thin films (which has lamellar (2D) structure) have been prepared using a simple and cost effective technique of spray pyrolysis on glass substrates at 450 ℃. Surface morphology, optical and structural properties of samples have been investigated using FESEM, UV-Vis spectroscopy and XRD analysis techniques, respectively. FES...
